Well that’s it, it’s all done for another year. Apologies for the delay in my blog but since finishing the blanket I have moved home so it has been a little hectic shall we say.
The final two weeks was the border of the blanket working in rounds to bring it all together and finish it off. And a new stitch for me Pom Pom Bobbles, a little fiddly shall we say but very affective in bright orange.
And here it is, 12 weeks of lockdown and a very emotional roller coaster for me. This blanket was made through a separation, pandemic, lockdown, furlough, back to work and a new home move. Never going to forget making this blanket am I?
Here is it against last years Changing Tides CAL, watch this space for a little addition.
Lilly approves of both
Enjoy the rest of your day and thank you for reading.
Happy Sunday all, miserable, grey and cold here today so I hope week 9 will bring a little ray of sunshine to your day.
This week was a continuation of week 8 with more puff stitch waves. As I am now use to how they fall in the rows I flew through this week and really enjoyed them.
Eager to see what Coastal Crochet has in store for us on Friday, can’t wait.
Hope you enjoy the remainder of your weekend and thanks for reading.
Good evening everyone, I hope you’ve had a good weekend, It has been very hot and sunny here in the UK and I hope you have made the most of it safely.
Well this weeks rows, inspired by waves, 12 puff stitch waves continuing on the top and bottom edges of the blanket. Sounded a breeze this week, how wrong could I have been.
I could not get my rows to line up, no matter what I did, I frogged so many times and had to turn to the group on Facebook for help. Turns out I was right on the first go, GRRRRRR #annoying #lol.
Not many more weeks to go now cannot believe how quick it has gone to be honest, seems like only a couple of weeks ago that we all started. I cannot wait till it’s all finished now though and it’s in my new home.
Roll on week 9, wishing my life away on a blanket here lol, ahhhhh crochet love.
Evening everyone, I hope you’re all having a great long holiday weekend so far (UK). Another week is complete and with it a realisation that I made a mistake on week 6 that I am not now rectifying (Shhhh no one can see it or tell so I’ll not mention it anymore).
This week we did the opposite side to Week 6 and 4 rows of the top and bottom, now it’s really starting to look like a blanket. Can’t wait for Friday and week 8, I wonder if we will start working in rounds now???
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, thanks for reading.
Blimey I’m half way through already, no small squares this week, we just made a big one. This weeks is inspired by seashells and saw us all making up all the squares and one edging.
Had quite a bit of frogging this week though, only through my own stupidity frustratingly. Firstly I almost finished the 2nd row of the edging and realised it was the wrong colour, then I ended up with way more shells than I needed on another and realised I clearly cannot count.
Got there in the end though, I laid it out once I’d finished to take the picture for today’s blog and had to marvel at the amount of work involved so far. You don’t realise when you’re making it because you get lost in the pattern. The colours just hit you and pop.
It’s starting to get heavy now it’s all coming together and can’t wait for next week, Loving it.
Happy Monday everyone, hope you’re all safe and well?
That’s another week over and I really enjoyed this week’s squares. Inspired by driftwood along our shorelines, learning how to make this effect was so much fun.
What do you think?
Short and Sweet one today, Take care, Stay Safe and roll on week 5.
Hi Everyone, all still sane? Getting into this lockdown situation now?
Well, that is week 3 completed and what a challenge that was. Had a few mental blocks on this one, and a few harsh words muttered but got there in the end, Phew!
Had to do two squares again this week, but this time I did each round together so both worked up at the same time.
This weeks inspiration came from the buoys and fishing nets washed up on our shores and you can really see that come through in the squares. I absolutely loved it this week Coastal Crochet, but I am a little concerned these squares seem larger than the last ones made in week 1 and week 2. I’m sure it will all come together in the end.
So here it is week 3’s instalment, roll on Friday for week 4, can’t wait.
Afternoon everyone, hope you are well and safe? It’s starting to get to everyone now I know it is but hang in there we can do this together.
On the 10th April 2020, amidst this very strange and surreal time, this years CAL started by my favourite designer over at Coastal Crochet. I love her design work and this one looked quite a challenge. Unfortunately I didn’t order my pack in time and had to wait for it so come back in stock but thankfully it arrived on Tuesday.
There are 2 different kits that are available from The Knitting Network, one in cotton and one in acrylic, I decided on the cotton on this time which it the more expensive of the two packs but I have to say I am loving this Scheepjes Catona cotton yarn.
I thought it looked challenging and it certainly was, I didn’t get far till I had to flog a round and start again (the importance of counting hitting me like a slap in the face) I got to the end of round three and thought hang on a minute that’s not right? I had to many stitches, in my defence it was my first ever time doing popcorn stitch and clearly got carried away with it.
More popcorn stitches in round four and I suddenly realised that I was finishing them wrongly, DOH! the eagle eyed ones among you will see the difference between round two and four, I was not flogging it all again, no thanks.
I gained more stitches as the rounds went on and I kept flogging, swearing, re doing, flogging, swearing a little more then sod it I will lose them in the next round which I did.
CRAB STITCH – my new hate stitch, wow, took me an hour to do this round of crab stitch and I seriously do hate it. This stitch goes against everything you have been taught as you have to DC backwards and my fingers and brain just could not get around it at all. As feared there was more crab stitch at the end of week one. I used a larger hook this time and it was a lot easier to control the cotton yarn from splitting so the final round wasn’t so bad.
The dreaded crab stitch (white circle)
And that’s it, Week 1 complete and I’m ready for Week 2 being released tomorrow morning, no more crab stitches please Eleonora (false hope on my part there)
What do you think? great start to a new emerging blanket, challenging but going to be worth it I’m sure.
Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are all well? firstly I need to apologise for being radio silent this week I have been very busy creating and finishing off a few things so hopefully over the weekend I’ll be able to show you them all.
Last Sunday I finished a table runner for my mums new dining table, she always got loads of tea towels folded in half and laid them in the centre of the table to put all the hot dishes on for the Sunday roast so I decided to make a runner out of cotton to match her decor and table, so she no longer needs to drag out all her tea towels then wash them all afterwards.
It didn’t take long to make using c2c, my first time using cotton though, not very forgiving is it? but the affect is lovely and mum loves it. I must admit it does look rather nice and will hopefully wash easily for her so she can use it for years to come.
I used a hook size lower than stated for the cotton yarn to make it a little tighter and it seems to have worked. The problem I had that my decreasing side wasn’t as straight as the increasing side so was a little worried that a border would not pull it back into shape. I edged it with a single dc all round then decided to put a scalloped border in a different colour which worked fine on the straight side, not so much on the uneven side, so instead of skipping one chain to work the 5dc I skipped 2 and it levelled it out nicely. If it hadn’t I was starting again and I didn’t fancy doing that.
I’m fairly new to c2c is this always the case with the decreasing side? or am I doing something wrong maybe, either way I don’t think it’s too obvious that I skipped more stitches on one side than the other.
I think the colours match quite nicely, and it definitely serves it’s purpose.
